Questions You Need to Ask Us About Cavity Treatment OptionsCavities are not fun. We don't need to tell you this anymore then we need to tell you that fire is hot, but it is a fact that reiterates itself when one of those nasty holes appears in your tooth. Luckily, we provide treatment options for cavities – it's definitely a popular procedure here. Well, that and cleanings. Even if you have had a cavity treated before, there are still plenty of things to learn. Take the following into consideration.

Not All Cavities Require the Same Procedure

The placement of the cavity and which tooth it is on can play a vital role in which procedure may best suite your needs. Depending on your situation and the depth of your cavity, it may be unnecessary to use any kind of injected anesthesia. It isn't uncommon for our patients to take a seat in the chair, feel a poke or two with our tools, and be back at the front desk within twenty minutes. Of course, that isn't always the case. Larger cavities and those closer to the gumline will take much longer to clean and fill using standard methods. Thinking about the size of your cavity and how it came about will also affect how you should treat the situation prior to and after the procedure. Different foods, drinks, and activities, such as smoking, may need to be avoided or you'll run the risk of making the situation far worse. Lastly, there a several different types of tooth fillings and ways to apply them.

Each option has its own pros and cons, so it's important to discuss with our team what may be the best for your continued oral health. If you discover you have a cavity, call our office, and schedule an appointment to get your mouth back on the right track.
