Digital Radiography Spokane, WA
There is no question we are living in the digital age. It seems like everything is digital these days. Your phone, your computer, your car, your refrigerator - everything is digital. In fact, digital things can talk to other digital things. Do you have one of those refrigerators that can talk to your phone and tell you what’s missing in your kitchen? It’s crazy.
One place where digital technology is really helpful is in your mouth. We use digital radiography to have a look at your mouth. Digital radiography is the best thing to happen to your teeth since the x-ray itself. Let Smile More Spokane Family Dentistry a minute of your time to tell you about the wonders of digital radiography.
What Is Digital Radiography?
Digital radiography is a revolutionary innovation. X-rays were helpful because they allowed us to see into your mouth, and check out your teeth and gums, as well as your jaw. However, dental x-rays gave off a lot of radiation, which bothered some people. They also took time to develop, which means that in some cases, we wouldn’t know you had a problem until after you left. That meant you had to come back in for a fix or additional checking.
However, with digital radiography, we can quickly snap an x-ray, and get them back in seconds. If you have a problem, we can get it fixed right away. Also, the pictures with digital radiography are far more clear than with traditional x-rays. We are also able to see your teeth, gums and other areas of your mouth very well.
How Does Digital Radiography Work?
We can take digital x-rays in two different ways. We can take digital x-rays using intraoral x-rays can give us information about your teeth and your bones. Like traditional x-rays, you have to bite down to take these x-rays. However, we only have to do two bitewing x-rays with digital x-rays, where we took four in the past.
We can get a complete picture of your mouth with two x-rays. We can also take peripheral x-rays that can show one tooth from the crown of the tooth to your jawbone. If we need to look at bone loss, peripheral x-rays are good. We can also look at a bone loss with peripheral x-rays. Gum disease and abscesses are visible using peripheral x-rays as well.
There are also extraoral x-rays. These x-rays are not taken inside your mouth. Instead, they are taken outside your mouth. We can use these x-rays to look at impacted teeth and problems with your jaw joint. Panoramic x-rays come from a machine that rotates around your head. It can show us your whole mouth all at one time. We also use panoramic x-rays to see problems with your wisdom teeth, a possible tumor, or TMJ issues.
